Readin' Vegans--"How to End Injustice Everywhere"
For link to this zoom meeting, see DenverVegans.org. Even though we're still testing out this site to figure out how it works, this is a real event. But RSVP and get the link on DenverVegans.org (which redirects to our meetup group).
Readin' Vegans will begin our tenth year on Jan. 28, discussing How to End Injustice Everywhere: Understanding the Common Denominator Driving All Injustices, to Create a Better World for Humans, Animals, and the Environment, by Melanie Joy (2023). You need not have attended a previous discussion to join us for this one. We'll discuss the book until about 8:00, followed by open conversation.
The Zoom link to the discussion is posted on the right, visible to those who RSVP. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LINK DISAPPEARS AT THE MEETUP START TIME, THAT IS, 7:00 PM. We'll be available from 6:50 on to help anyone who might need extra time to connect. If you can't get on, call us at 303-300-2368. We hope you can join us!
If you'd like to read ahead: Feb. 25 -- A Fever in the Heartland, Timothy Egan Mar. 25 -- Poverty, by America, Matthew Desmond April 22 -- Regenesis: Feeding the World without Devouring the Planet, George Monbiot
In this eye-opening and compelling work, psychologist Melanie Joy reveals the common denominator driving all forms of injustice. The mentality that drives us to oppress and abuse humans is the same mentality that drives us to oppress and abuse nonhumans and the environment, as well as those in our own groups working for justice.
How to End Injustice Everywhere offers a fascinating examination of the psychology and structure of unjust systems and behaviors. It also offers practical tools to help raise awareness of these systems and dynamics, reduce infighting, and build more resilient and impactful justice movements.
